EMS Care Chapter 10 | Cardiac Arrest Management

EMS CARE | Chapter 10 | Cardiac Arrest Management – Lessons

EMS Care  | Cardiac Arrest Mangement starts with an introduction to the topic and has presentations on various aspects of CPR, details on the physiology and pathophysiology of the Airway, and how to manage it. The course provides details on using BVM, AED, and how to handle an airway obstruction. There are live demo videos on the aforementioned topics. We will be discussing the following topics

  • Lesson One will provide an overview of the Elements of Basic Life Support,
  • Lesson Two covers Airway Management,
  • Lesson Three focuses on CPR Skills,
  • Lesson Four will go over the A E D, and
  • Lesson Five describes how to manage Foreign Body Airway Obstruction.
  • In addition, there is a bonus lesson on Team Dynamics, followed by a lesson with detailed instructions to prepare for the test.

An Excerpt from the course on Cardiac Arrest Management

CPR – or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation – is an emergency lifesaving procedure performed when the heart stops beating. Immediate CPR can double or triple chances of survival after cardiac arrest.

CPR Establishes circulation and artificial ventilation in a patient who is not breathing, and has no pulse.

The basic CPR steps for an adult, to be performed by a healthcare professional are:

  1. Restore circulation by performing a series of 30 chest compressions to circulate the blood.
  2. Opening the airway through using either the head tilt chin lift or jaw-thrust maneuver. And Then, forcing air into the patient’s lungs by providing rescue breathing with a BVM.  Be sure to Administer two breaths to 30 compressions, while visualizing for chest rise.
  3. And then repeat – 30 chest compressions – then 2 rescue breaths with a BVM or a pocket barrier mask.

In adult victims of cardiac arrest, it is reasonable for rescuers to perform chest compressions at a rate of 100 to 120 per minute.  And compressing to a depth of at least 2 inches or 5 cm for an average adult.
