Burnouts are another downside of any job. It is a reaction to cumulative stress or to multiple critical incidents, where there is a loss of enthusiasm and energy, and it is replaced by feelings of frustration, hopelessness, low self-esteem, isolation, and mistrust.
Some of the factors that contribute to burnout are:
- Multiple or back-to-back emergency events.
- Facing public hostility.
- Bureaucratic obstacles.
- Long hours, and.
- Poor working conditions.
