An Excerpt from the course on Patients with Special Challenges
As an EMR, caring for patients with a disability can be a bit different, because they might do some things differently due to their disability. For example, a blind patient may wish to touch the EMR’s face while talking just to feel more comfortable.
So, be empathetic to their disability and requirements, as it is important to establish trust with them. Always explain what you are doing, especially with patients who are blind or have other communication impairments, so they feel comfortable.
